The 1960s

New, advanced surgical procedures made possible by the development of new oxygenators, heart-lung equipment and vascular grafts, stimulated the need for specialised cardiac and vascular instruments.

Many of the specialist surgeons including De Bakey, Cooley, Satinsky etc. entrusted the old and highly regarded PILLING CO. with the development of their concepts into instruments.

During this period the Atraugrip atraumatic group of clamps for vessels was developed.

Later on Pilling developed a new method of producing box lock joints, attaching tungsten carbide inserts to needle holders etc.

N. Stenning & Co. were fortunate in having been entrusted by Mr. Henry Pilling to distribute their instruments in the early 60s.
