The 1960s

Our association with Karl Storz began in 1959.

At that time the Storz workshop in Tuttlingen, Germany was making ENT instruments, binocular loupes headlights and through quartz rods, distally illuminated endoscopes, optical forceps and the proximal electronic flash for photography.

In the early 1960's Professor H. Hopkins of Reading University pioneered the new rod lens system, and , together with Karl Storz, further developed it for use in endoscopic telescopes.  Endoscopy as we know it today, forms the basis of minimally invasive surgery

In 1965/66, Australian physicians and surgeons began using the HOPKINS rod lens telescopes, made by STORZ, and instruments designed to work in conjunction with them.
